Glossary

  • Shadahl – the ancient name given to this world by some unknown entity.
  • Arcane – mysterious and ancient, or a word for abilities and powers that flow through the Weave of Magic that wraps itself around Shadahl.
  • Martial – abilities based on skill at arms, and based on in-depth training and practice
  • Divine – abilities or entities derived from the Gods, the ancients, or some other spirit or being. Priests would be considered to worship the Divine.
  • Primal – The nature of Shadahl, the base elements, and the natural order. Abilities and powers that are primal come from the might of nature in some way. The weave of arcane power is not considered primal, though it is part of the natural world.
  • Psionic – The intense power that resonates in the mind, and the discipline of the mind. Psionic powers can be considered a type of magic, but completely from ones self and no use of the weave.
  • Rivenduum Flameson – elder dwarven scholar
  • Great Shroud – When the Gods fell.
  • 1222 B.L. – Time of the Great Shroud, when the Gods fell.
  • B.L. – Branekar Lorerecords
  • Pits, Black Pits, Fel Pits – pockets or doors to and from the other planes that have broken holes into the world. Commonly these are demonic in nature, and a doorway to the Abyss, but others have been found.
  • Curse of Shadow – the plague of demons and malfeasance that erupted from the Pits.
  • earthhome – dwarven expression for any land mass, often followed by a common name for it.
  • Branangor – Garulia’s largest dwarfhome.
  • Nenkars – Not of the people, not of the world. Usually used by Dwarves in reference to humans.
  • Janthian – of Janthis
  • Janthis – eastern Kingdom of Garulia
  • Kolrik – of Kolramus
  • Kolramus – eastern Island Kingdom of Garulia
  • Hammer’s Sons – specialized military of Janthis
  • Moorfolk – those of the Gentlemoors
  • Gentlemoors – the northeast regions of Garulia, rolled into one name.
  • Sandia – western realm ruled by a council of eleven.
  • Dume – capital or major city of Sandia
  • Sandian – one native to Sandia
  • Draguljen – people of the southwest regions, the mountains
  • Drake’s Claw – large mountain formation that resembles a claw reaching into the sea.
  • Dragussen – a major village of the Draguljen
  • Byagle the Bold, Bard of Barrendown
  • Barrendown – Byagle the Bold’s homeland .. never found on a map, or by any other soul.
  • A’ali – pronounced ay – ahlee
  • Evernear – the deity like name sometimes used by pagan folks or worshipers when speaking of Nature.
  • Great Tree – an iconic emblem of the Ver’ali, or Elves
  • Xymentha – the old mother goddess of the Eladrin, or Sen’ali, people, and the Keeper of the Arcane.
  • Ffolk – ancient written word mistakenly copied and now slang used to represent Elves and Eladrin by those looking to group them together.
  • Bruk – common name given to half orcs as a species by Orckin
  • Right Hand – one of the names for Jantyr, old god of justice and retribution.
  • Faerie – grouping for those of Twilight origin in accepted history or known lore. Examples include Elf, Eladrin, Gnomes, Fomorian, and numerous other creatures and species. Often used by dwarves and those who follow their tongue as a derogatory term for said creatures … especially any elf-kin.
  • Overworld – dwarven expression for the world above ground.
  • Eld-fathers – dwarven prayer for father’s strength
  • Lost Mothers – dwarven prayer for mother’s will
  • Brothers and Sisters Forgotten – dwarven prayer for the resilience of your fallen.
  • Lir’Ennen – an elf home
  • Day of Separate Ways – day of yore when the elven people split into their separate lineage that we know of today, Elf, Eladrin (and other?). Prior to this day, all of these Ffolk were one people.
  • Hearths – Elven families are separated into Hearths, which each hearth generally in a separate region. While first blood relationships do not occur in elven lands, it is considered proper for any other person to be an accepted mate.
  • Qua’la – Elven word for nature, believed to be another word for the Evernear
  • Kas’Alir – Major Eladrin citadel, bound between both the Twilight and the Earth.
  • Vokuz – Eladrin word for Fomorian, or one of the major Fomorian peoples.
  • Tirfolan Nevannor – member of the Nevannor House of Kas’Alir, and eladrin mage of great learning.
  • Lady Beaus of Kolramus – Magemistress of Kolramus, archenemy and love interest of Tirfolan Nevannor, though he would never break his House and wed her.
  • Silver Order – ruling council comprised of the 15 houses of Kas’Alir.
  • Bladedancers – order of swordmages, rangers, and fighters in Kas’Alir.
  • Arcanists – reference to those who practice anything Arcane, often used to lump wizards, with sorcerers and warlocks.
  • Gendling – another term for Gnome that many races adopted. Pronounced Jend’ling by most, Gend’ling by some.
  • Vreek – Eladrin word for Demon or Devil.
  • Gendling Greymad – first apprentice of Tirfolan Nevannor.
  • Twilight, or the Twilight – fey and magical realm adjoined to ours but separate. It often can be found at Twilight, and the eladrin and gnomes are said to have originated there.
  • Kordak – common name for Goliaths in dwarven.
  • Vreg – Kordak whom Rivenduum spoke of
  • Thorn Fist Clan – orc clan who once roused Rivenduum’s clan’s anger.
  • The man of half – expression for half a man, as some people derogatorily refer to halflings.
  • Anserd Farfallen – halfling rogue and bard who wrote ‘Once’
  • Vadruusil Darkmane – tiefling warlord, and Commander of the Nine Companies, author of Black Beginnings.
  • The Nine Companies – a mercenary group often found in Sandia
